DESCRIPTION:Mainstream Jewry has encountered communities across the globe claiming to belong to the Jewish people or to be descendants of lost Israelite tribes\, who were exiled 2\,700 years ago\, for centuries. Who are these groups? How did they get “lost” or become isolated from the rest of known Jewry? And why have their claims been accepted or rejected? Sessions will cover the history and search for the Lost Tribes\, as well as communities ranging from India and Ethiopia to Africa and the Americas. \nInstructor Dr. Steven Klein is a Jewish educator and journalist with a Ph.D. in conflict management and negotiation from Bar-Ilan University. An adjunct instructor at Tel Aviv University and a senior editor at Haaretz English Edition\, he has contributed numerous articles to the newspaper on issues regarding Israeli society as well as regional and international conflict. \nFour one-hour sessions available in person and over Zoom \nTuesdays at 11:00 AM. Sessions will cover the history and search for the Lost Tribes\, as well as communities ranging from India and Ethiopia to Africa and the Americas. \nInstructor Dr. Steven Klein is a Jewish educator and journalist with a Ph.D. in conflict management and negotiation from Bar-Ilan University. An adjunct instructor at Tel Aviv University and a senior editor at Haaretz English Edition\, he has contributed numerous articles to the newspaper on issues regarding Israeli society as well as regional and international conflict. \nFour one-hour sessions available in person and over Zoom \nTuesdays at 11:00 AM. DESCRIPTION:Join The Branch (formerly JRS) and webinar speaker Asha Chai-Chang as she talks about the growing community of Jews who identify as Jews of Color. Born in Long Island as the Jamaican/Cuban/Chinese/Jewish daughter to immigrant parents\, Asha is an Actuary by Trade turned Award-Winning Director/Writer with invisible disabilities. Asha will create an open dialogue about being a person of color with multiple disabilities and speak about the intersectionality of being a Jew of Color with disabilities. She will also explore ways Jewish communities can increase visibility and create safe spaces for Jews of Color.
