Torah Center students in grades 3-6 designed and painted panels Oct. 5 that have been sewn on a simulated refugee tent to raise awareness of the conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan. Temple is one of 14 area organizations participating in the "Tents of Hope" project in response to the five-year humanitarian crisis that has left 200,000 people dead and driven more than 2.5 million from their homes. The decorated tent will be displayed outside Temple and then erected in Washington, D.C. as part of a demonstration next month. The tents from Temple and groups around the country will be shipped to Darfur for use in refugee camps. Click here for more photos and details. (Photos by Bill Labovitz)

The entire Temple Community is invited to join in our Sukkot celebration Oct. 13. Enjoy a spaghetti dinner at 6 p.m., followed by services at 7 p.m. including the first Lulav and Etrog blessings of 5769. Also included in the service will be the Consecration of our Confirmation students – a brief ceremony that kicks off the Confirmation year. The only cost is your RSVP to the Torah Center office.
For the second year, we will be having Temple Emanuel’s Sukkah Hop. If you are interested in receiving a Sukkah this year, please contact the office @ 412.279.7600 ASAP. If you already built a sukkah and would like to participate in the Hop, please contact the office. Each family who receives the portable Sukkah will participate in our Temple Emanuel Sukkah Hop on the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 19, along with other members of our congregation who build their own Sukkah. Additionally a committee comprised of members of our Beit HaMidrash (Adult Education) Committee and our Worship Committee will visit every Sukkah to award prizes. The list of participating families will be released soon.
